CAMBRIDGE, MD — Following the primary election on June 23, 2026, community development professional and Eastern Shore native Katie Clendaniel has officially secured the Democratic nomination for the Maryland State Senate to represent District 37. Clendaniel won the primary with a commanding 72.7% of the vote, demonstrating strong momentum and broad grassroots support across the district.

Clendaniel, a dedicated working mother who has spent over 20 years championing regional economic development, non-profit development, and local community revitalization, released the following statement celebrating the victory and looking ahead to the general election:

"I am incredibly humbled and deeply grateful for the trust the voters of District 37 have placed in me. This victory isn't just about a campaign; it’s about giving a powerful, united voice to the Eastern Shore. Our rural communities are navigating unique challenges—from gaps in our rural economy and healthcare access to aging infrastructure - we need a robust state partnership that delivers.

Our campaign is built on the belief that we can create sustainable, thriving communities where families can grow, businesses can expand, and our quality of life is protected. I want to thank Edmund Barrett for a spirited race focused on the issues. Now, it is time to unite and bring this energy all the way to November."

With the primary concluded, the Clendaniel campaign pivots toward the general election on November 3, 2026, where she will challenge Republican incumbent Johnny Mautz.

The campaign will continue its focus on key issues vital to the Eastern Shore, including: access to rural healthcare, economic development tailored to the region, investment in local infrastructure and community development.
